ABOUT Boynton Beach, FLORIDA

A jewel of a resort town on the Florida Atlantic coast in Palm Beach County, 58 miles north of Miami halfway between Boca Raton and West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach, Florida, is also an intimate community with old-style charm for the 73,000 folks who call it home.

The first resident of Boynton Beach was Nathan Boynton, a former Civil War major who built the Boynton Hotel in 1894 and brought the first settlers with him from his hometown of Port Huron, Michigan. The nascent Florida East Coast Railroad reached Boynton two years later and hauled tons of pineapples, tomatoes, mangoes, and citrus from Boynton all over the country. The Town of Boynton was incorporated in 1920; the name “Boynton Beach” was first used by a community that split off from Boynton in 1931. In 1939, Boynton Beach became Ocean Ridge, and in 1941, the Town of Boynton became Boynton Beach.

The Boynton Beach climate is moderated in both winter and summer by the proximity of the Gulf Stream. The downtown area is undergoing a major redevelopment effort, and its beaches are rated #1 in Palm Beach County. Boynton Beach is the third-largest city in the county and enjoys robust residential growth across all age spectrums. In 2011, the world-famous Oceanfront Park Boardwalk was completely redone in ipe (Brazilian Walnut) wood.
